Equity Action proudly endorses these candidates for local office in the current election. These are the candidates we believe will best support and champion policies that promote equity, justice, and civil rights in our community.
Equity Action exists to promote transformative justice in the Austin area and we endorse candidates that share our priority of addressing the root causes of social issues, rather than relying on police and prisons.
This election we based our endorsements on candidate’s public stances and actions related to a combination of the following issues:
- Fixing the Austin police contract proposal
- Implementing the Austin Police Oversight Act
- Funding Community Investment Budget proposals
- Investing in alternative first response initiatives
- Holding police accountable for wrongdoing
- Reducing gun violence
- Supporting Counsel at First Appearance (CAFA) for arrestees
- Promoting safe alternatives to incarceration
- Opposing the response to pro-Palestine protesters at the University of Texas
